Fiscal reforms, namely allocation for educational subsidies and property tax rebates, are examined in terms of a model of voter decisions based on households as the basic decision unit. This approach is unable to determine whether voter decisions are based on economic or ideological bases due to aggregation biases. However, the study is able to determine that legislators base their policy decisions on perceived economic benefits to their constituents.Citation DetailsTitle: Do legislators vote their constituents' wallets? Ductigami: The Art of the Tape
[Price: $8.94] [Rate] [Comments (0)] [Date: 2009-11-19]
Duct tape -- it's everywhere. At the hardware store, the grocery store, in secret agents' briefcases, at the Scouts' den, in Uncle Mert's golf bag. There are duct-tape clubs and cults. University engineering departments use it in competitions. There are dozens of websites devoted to it. Red Green calls it the handyman's secret weapon. NASA has a policy stating that every space shuttle mission must carry at least one roll of the gray tape. The humble tape has hit the bigtime. In this wonderful, hip and downright funny book, Joe Wilson (a comedian with lots of time and tape on his hands) shows us how to make 14 amazing projects using ordinary duct tape. Projects include wallets, baseball caps, toilet roll covers, cell-phone holders, raingear for pets, and much more.

Much of my public profile is tied to politics, especially during presidential and congressional campaigns. But politics makes up less than a quarter of the work I do. The overwhelming majority of my professional time is devoted to measuring and interpreting public opinion for corporations and other business interests and for professional organizations. While voters get to vote only once or twice a year, consumers vote with their wallets every day.brbrBesides, as different as they might seem, political and consumer polling are pretty much the same thing. In both instances, we make choices based not just on price and value, or promises and policy, but on unconscious signals that we receive and interpret to satisfy our unconscious selves. Business leaders and politicians often miss this essential point. Our minds think in similes and metaphors-we search for comparisons with which we are comfortable to help us understand the unknown. To get to this deeper level of decision- making, good survey research goes beyond simply asking respondents if they prefer Product A or B, or Candidate C over Candidate D.brbrGood research @=p£×ÿ¾Û€

Wheres the beef? In the news, thats where. More than ever, meat is making the headlines and growing numbers of people are becoming more informed and passionate about what they eat. The facts are compelling: contamination cases are on the rise, obesity has become pandemic in the United States, and the animal agriculture sector is responsible for more human-induced greenhouse gas emissions than the entire transportation sector. Its no wonder that millions of people are thinking twice about meat.An information-packed, lively, and informative little guide, Gristle is for the growing number of people--from omnivores to vegans--who are thinking twice about the consequences of our industrial factory-farming system of raising animals for food. Multi-platinum musician Moby and leading food policy activist and expert Miyun Park have brought together fifteen of the country's leading voices on this issue--an eclectic group from such diverse backgrounds as farming, workers' rights activism, professional athletics, science, environmental sustainability, food business, and animal welfare advocacy--who together eloquently lay out how and why industrial animal agriculture unnecessarily harms workers, communities, the environment, our health, our wallets, and animals. In the tradition of Michael Pollans The Omnivores Dilemma, Gristle combines hard-hitting facts with a light touch and includes fascinating charts and illustrations depicting the stark realities of Americas industrial food system. For more information, please visit: www.gristle-book.com.
